Yes, We Can Install Pot Lights in a Finished Ceiling
The question we hear most about pot lights is whether they can go into an existing drywall ceiling without tearing it apart. In the large majority of homes, the answer is yes.
We use proper cutting tools to make clean openings, fish the wiring through the ceiling, and place each light where it belongs rather than where the joists happen to be. When we are done we patch what needs patching and clean up, so the only thing you notice is the light.
Older North Vancouver homes occasionally have insulation, framing or knob and tube wiring in the ceiling that changes the approach. We check for that before we start and tell you honestly if a particular ceiling is going to be more involved.
How Many Pot Lights, and Where?
A rough rule is one light every four to six feet, but it really depends on the room and what you use it for. A kitchen or a bathroom needs more for task lighting, while a living room usually wants fewer lights on a dimmer for a softer feel.

You are welcome to supply your own pot lights or fixtures, or we can source them for you. One thing worth knowing: fixtures bought from online only sellers are sometimes not CSA approved, which can be both a code problem and a genuine fire risk. If you are buying your own, send us the product link before you order and we will tell you whether it is safe to install.
Why LED Is Worth the Switch
LED is not just about the power bill, though that is real. It runs cooler, which matters in recessed fixtures, and a good LED will outlast the halogen or incandescent it replaces by years. The light quality is also far better than the early LEDs people remember, and with the right fixtures and dimming you get warm, natural light rather than the flat blue tone LED used to be known for.
When we retrofit a home to LED, we pay attention to colour temperature and dimming compatibility, because a cheap LED on the wrong dimmer is where the buzzing and flickering complaints come from.

6. Do I need a permit to add pot lights?
Adding new lighting circuits or significant wiring can require a permit in BC. We handle the permit and inspection when a job calls for one, so you do not have to think about it.
7. Can you replace a heavy chandelier?
Yes. The main thing is making sure the electrical box can carry the weight safely, which older boxes sometimes cannot. We upgrade the box if needed as part of the job.
8. Do you do outdoor and landscape lighting too?
