Wired Properly, Not Just Plugged In
Straight Advice on What's Worth It
A Smart Home That Actually Makes Sense
There are two kinds of smart home company in North Vancouver. There are the high end integrators who build hundred thousand dollar Savant systems for luxury homes, and there is what most people actually want, which is smart switches that work, a thermostat that pays for itself, cameras they can check from their phone, and a front door they can unlock for the dog walker.
We do the second kind, and we do it properly. As a licensed electrician and certified Lutron Pro installer, we wire smart devices in so they are reliable and safe, rather than a pile of gadgets that half work and drop off the network every few weeks.
If you genuinely want a full luxury automation system with motorized shades and whole home audio, we will tell you honestly that a specialist integrator is a better fit. For everything short of that, we are exactly who you want.
What We Install
Smart Switches and Dimmers
Lutron Caseta and similar, wired in at the switch so they work reliably and control your existing lights without swapping every bulb.
Smart Thermostats
Nest, Ecobee and similar, wired correctly including the common wire that a lot of older North Vancouver homes are missing.
Security Cameras
Wired and wireless cameras placed where they actually cover the property, with power run cleanly rather than a cord taped to the wall.
Video Doorbells
Hardwired doorbell cameras with the correct transformer, so they charge properly and do not die every winter.
Smart Locks and Keypads
Keyless entry installed and set up, so you can let people in without hiding a key under the mat.
Motion and Occupancy Sensors
Lights that come on when you walk in and off when the room is empty, wired into the switching properly.
Smart Home Wiring and Neutrals
Adding the neutral wires and boxes that smart switches need but older homes often do not have.
Scenes and App Setup
Getting it all onto one app and setting up the everyday scenes so it is genuinely usable, not just installed.
Just want better lighting or dimming without a whole smart system? That is on our lighting page. Outdoor lighting you can control is covered on the landscape lighting page.
Why Your Smart Switch Might Not Work in an Older Home
Here is something the box at the hardware store does not tell you. Most smart switches need a neutral wire at the switch box to work, and a lot of North Vancouver homes built before the 1980s simply do not have one there.
This is the single most common reason a DIY smart switch install fails. People buy the switch, open the wall, and find there is nothing to connect it to. As electricians, this is a straightforward fix for us. We can add the neutral, or in some cases recommend a switch designed to work without one.
It is also exactly the kind of thing worth sorting out during a renovation or a panel upgrade, while things are already open.
Why Have an Electrician Do It
It actually stays working
A device wired into the wall properly does not drop off the network the way something plugged into a smart plug behind the couch does. Hardwired is reliable in a way that battery and plug in gear is not.
It is safe and to code
Cameras, doorbells and hardwired devices involve real wiring. Done wrong, that is a fire and a code problem. Done by a licensed electrician, it is neither.
We tell you what is worth it
Not every smart gadget is worth the money, and we will say so. A smart thermostat pays for itself. A smart switch in a room you barely use probably does not. You get honest advice, not an upsell.

What Our Clients Say
Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why won't my smart switch work in my older house?
Most smart switches need a neutral wire at the switch box, and many North Vancouver homes built before the 1980s do not have one there. We can add the neutral, or fit a switch that works without one. It is one of the most common things we sort out.
2. Do I need a whole automation system, or can I start small?
Start small. Most people begin with a thermostat, a couple of smart switches and a camera, then add more later. You do not need a big integrated system to get most of the benefit.
3. Are you a Lutron installer?
Yes, we are a certified Lutron Pro installer. Lutron Caseta is one of the most reliable smart lighting control systems for a normal home, and we set it up so it actually works the way you expect.
4. Can you install cameras and doorbells I already bought?
Usually yes. Bring what you have and we will install and wire it. If something you bought is not going to work well where you want it, we will tell you before we put it up.
5. Do you do the big luxury automation systems?
No, and we are upfront about that. Full Savant systems with motorized shades and whole home audio are best handled by a specialist integrator. We do the practical smart home, which is what most people actually want.
6. Will a smart thermostat really save me money?
Generally yes, especially if your heating runs when nobody is home. It is one of the few smart devices that reliably pays for itself, which is why it is usually the first thing we suggest.
7. Is a hardwired camera better than a wireless one?
For anything permanent, yes. Hardwired means no batteries to change and no dropping off the wifi. Wireless is fine for spots where running a wire is impractical, and we will advise on which makes sense where.
8. Can you set it all up on one app?
As much as the devices allow. Some brands play nicely together and some insist on their own app. We will steer you toward gear that works together so you are not juggling six apps.
